‘Plan C’ Review: Abortion by Mail | ET REALITY

Director Tracy Droz Tragos presents her documentary on abortion”Plan C”about a grassroots organization of the same name. At the center of the organization is Francine Coeytaux, a public health activist in the United States, previously known for her campaign to get birth control pills sold without a prescription in pharmacies.

Under the leadership of Coeytaux and Elisa Wells, the group, founded in 2015, focuses on providing patients with information about medical providers and providers who can prescribe home abortion pills, medications that can safely terminate a pregnancy of up to 12 weeks.

The footage of Plan CThe activities span four years, beginning in 2019 and extending after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. Some scenes of abortion providers at work are filmed in vérité style, while in others Coeytaux and her associates speak directly to the camera about their efforts to help people seeking abortions.

Plan C methods are mobile and often include telehealth or mail-delivered prescriptions, and the group’s actions carry both legal and physical risks.

There are more than a dozen doctors, abortion rights advocates, and patients interviewed in this film, and most do not reveal their full names for security reasons, fearing violence from anti-abortion activists or prosecution in states like Texas. where residents can receive rewards for reporting abortion providers. Some do not reveal their faces and Tragos blurs their images or hides identifying features.

Sometimes all the secrecy and legal caution can make it difficult to understand the complex logistics of getting a legal abortion in the United States. But the risks involved are evident, and the documentary benefits from its attempts to capture Plan C’s high-risk operation in progress.

As people navigate this new reality, each of the film’s protagonists considers how far they can afford to cross the line of legal comfort.
